Compactor Engineering Manager Woodstock, GA
I. Job Summary The Compactor Engineering Manager leads new compactor equipment product development efforts and drives key compactor equipment projects to completion. Consistent with the company’s overall strategy and goals, the Compactor Engineering Manager endeavors to achieve market leadership by developing innovative products, providing excellent customer service and technical application support, and maintaining short lead times.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
Lead engineering team in design and development of compactor equipment components and systems
Manage projects and coordinate budgeting, scheduling, and interdepartmental interaction to bring projects to completion on time
Use technical expertise to perform complex product development activities in a hands-on role
Mentor, coach, and lead engineering using team-building skills
Implement continuous improvements and cost reductions for current projects
Assess, evaluate, and identify new product development opportunities. Works closely with engineering department leadership, manufacturing, and sales and marketing groups in the new product development cycle.
Develops monthly project budget/cost forecasts
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervisory responsibilities consistent with product responsibility and accountability as defined above.
Direct supervision of engineers, engineering technologists, cad system operators and drafting personnel assigned to compactor equipment projects.
IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A. Education and Experience
BSME or closely related degree, Master’s in Engineering preferred
Ten (10) years experience in a Project Engineer, Design Engineering Supervisor, or similar product development leadership role.
Demonstrated success in leading and successfully completing complex, compactor equipment design and development projects
B. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
Proven project management skills using current project management and tracking tools and the ability to mentor and lead engineers
Specialized knowledge in basic compactor equipment systems such as motors, cylinders, pumps, lubricants, hydraulics, seals, valves, bearings, controls, chutes, hoppers, and rams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent teamwork skills
Knowledge of LEAN and Six Sigma manufacturing
Deep knowledge of products
